How to Automate Access at Your Rehearsal Studio

Smart locks, automatic access codes, SMS and email reminders, and hands-free cancellations — how to run your studio without being there.

Published on 20 April 2026

You can automate access at your rehearsal studio by connecting Jammed to a smart lock system such as RemoteLock or Doorflow. When a musician books and pays online, Jammed automatically generates a unique access code, sends it to the customer by email and SMS before their session, and revokes it when the booking ends. Combined with automated reminders and a hands-free cancellation flow, it is possible to run a fully staffed rehearsal studio without anyone needing to be on site.

Why do rehearsal studios need automated access?

Most rehearsal studios require a staff member on site to let customers in, hand over keys, and lock up after sessions. This is operationally expensive: it limits your opening hours to whenever someone is available, creates a bottleneck for early morning or late night sessions, and means your revenue is capped by your staffing. Automated access removes this constraint entirely. A studio with smart lock access can operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no one on site — every customer lets themselves in with a unique code and the studio manages itself.

What is a smart lock integration for rehearsal studios?

A smart lock integration connects your booking software to an internet-connected door lock. When a booking is confirmed, the integration automatically creates a unique PIN code or digital key valid only for the duration of that session. The customer receives this code before they arrive. When the booking ends, the code is automatically deactivated. No physical keys change hands, no staff member needs to be present, and the studio door is only ever accessible to someone with an active booking.

Which smart lock systems does Jammed integrate with?

Jammed currently integrates with two smart access platforms: RemoteLock and Doorflow. Both are purpose-built for commercial access control and are used by studios, co-working spaces, and rental facilities. The right choice depends on your existing hardware and how many doors you need to control.

How does RemoteLock work with Jammed?

RemoteLock is a cloud-based access control platform that works with a wide range of commercial smart locks and keypads. When you connect RemoteLock to Jammed, confirmed bookings automatically trigger the creation of a unique PIN code in RemoteLock, scoped to the specific room and the exact time window of the booking. The code is sent to the customer as part of their booking confirmation and reminder messages. When the session ends, the code is automatically deleted. Studio owners can also monitor access events in real time from the RemoteLock dashboard — seeing exactly when a customer entered and when they left.

Best for: Studios that want commercial-grade hardware with detailed access audit trails and a wide choice of compatible lock hardware. Studios wanting a wide choice of compatible lock hardware, or already using RemoteLock for other spaces in the same building.

How does Doorflow work with Jammed?

Doorflow is an access control system designed specifically for spaces that operate on a booking model. Its integration with Jammed works similarly to RemoteLock: each confirmed booking generates a unique access credential, delivered to the customer automatically, and valid only for the booked time slot. Doorflow's dashboard gives studio owners a clear view of who has accessed which room and when, with detailed access logs for every session.

Best for: Studios that want simpler setup and a clean access log, particularly those already operating on a booking-first model. Studios setting up smart access for the first time and wanting a system built around the booking use case from the ground up.

How do automatic access codes get sent to customers?

When a customer books through Jammed, their access code is included in their booking confirmation email automatically. It is also sent again in a reminder message before their session — typically 24 hours and again 1 hour before the start time. This means the customer always has their code to hand when they arrive, without having to dig through old emails. The code only works during the booked window, so there is no risk of a customer using it outside their session.

What email and SMS reminders does Jammed send automatically?

Jammed sends a sequence of automated messages for every booking with no manual effort required from the studio owner. The full automated communication flow is:

  • Booking confirmation — sent immediately when a customer books and pays, including session details, room information, and access code if smart lock is connected
  • 24-hour reminder — sent the day before the session, including the access code and any instructions set by the studio owner
  • 1-hour reminder — sent shortly before the session starts, with the access code prominently displayed so it is easy to find on arrival
  • Post-session message — sent after the booking ends, which can include a review request or information about booking again

All of these messages are sent by both email and SMS. Studios can customise the message content and timing. The result is that customers are well-informed at every stage without any manual outreach from the studio.

How does the automatic cancellation flow work?

Jammed's cancellation flow is fully automated and enforces your cancellation policy without any manual decisions from you. When a customer cancels a booking, the system checks the time remaining before the session against your cancellation window. If the cancellation is within your policy window, the refund is automatically withheld or the deposit retained. If outside the window, the refund is automatically issued. Either way, the smart lock access code for that booking is immediately revoked when a cancellation is processed, so a cancelled customer cannot access the room.

The studio owner is notified of the cancellation and the slot immediately becomes available for a new booking. There is no manual step required at any point in the process — the policy is enforced, the refund or retention is handled, the access is revoked, and the calendar is updated, all automatically.

What does a fully automated studio session look like end to end?

With Jammed connected to a smart lock system, the full lifecycle of a studio booking requires zero manual involvement from the studio owner:

  • Customer books and pays online — confirmation email and SMS sent immediately with access code
  • 24 hours before the session — reminder sent with access code and any studio instructions
  • 1 hour before the session — final reminder with access code for easy access on arrival
  • Customer arrives and enters their PIN — access code works only for their booked room during their booked time
  • Session ends — access code automatically deactivated, room becomes available for the next booking
  • Post-session message sent — with option to rebook or leave a review

The studio owner's involvement in this entire sequence is zero. They receive a notification when each booking is made and can monitor access events through their dashboard, but no action is required for any individual booking.

What are the benefits of automated access for studio owners?

The operational benefits of automated access go beyond convenience. Studios that implement smart lock access report several consistent improvements:

  • Extended opening hours — without needing staff present, studios can offer 6am to midnight or 24-hour access, capturing bookings that would otherwise go elsewhere
  • Lower staffing costs — a single person can remotely oversee multiple studios, rather than needing someone physically present at each location
  • Reduced no-shows: automated reminders with access codes give customers every reason to arrive. Studios consistently see lower no-show rates after implementing reminder sequences.
  • Better security: unique per-booking codes mean no physical keys are ever in circulation, no lockout risk if a key is lost, and a complete audit trail of who accessed which room and when.
  • Scalability: once the system is in place, adding more rooms or opening additional studio locations does not require proportionally more staff.

How do you set up smart lock access with Jammed?

Setting up smart lock access through Jammed involves three steps: installing a compatible smart lock on your studio doors (RemoteLock and Doorflow both have hardware recommendations for commercial studio use), connecting your lock system account to Jammed in the integrations settings, and mapping each lock to its corresponding room in Jammed. Once connected, the integration runs automatically for every booking made through the platform. There is no ongoing configuration required — each new booking triggers the code generation and communication sequence automatically.

Is automated access right for every rehearsal studio?

Automated access works best for studios that want to reduce staffing requirements, extend their opening hours, or operate multiple locations. It is particularly well suited to studios where the owner does not want to be on-site for every session. Studios that offer equipment hire, backline rental, or services that require in-person interaction at the start of each session will still need some staff presence — but even these studios benefit from automated reminders, access codes for after-hours access, and the hands-free cancellation flow. The smart lock integration and the automation features work independently, so studios can use the reminders and cancellation automation without the smart lock component if preferred.
